What’s RTC Done?

RTC’s transit funding shortfall did not emerge overnight. For nearly a decade, RTC, the Transportation Resource Advisory Committee (TRAC), community stakeholders, and state lawmakers have discussed the long-term sustainability of transit funding in Southern Nevada. Beginning in 2017, the RTC initiated planning efforts, evaluated funding alternatives, sought legislative authority, and engaged regional leaders on potential solutions.

While transit funding remained an ongoing concern, several factors influenced the pace of those conversations. The COVID-19 pandemic shifted community and government priorities, federal relief funding temporarily stabilized transit operations, and legislative efforts focused on other transportation and economic challenges. During that time, the RTC continued to monitor financial conditions, evaluate funding options, and work with TRAC and policymakers to identify sustainable long-term solutions.

RTC has taken steps to manage the current funding challenge responsibly by focusing on efficiency, cost control, and protecting service as much as possible. We believe it’s important to demonstrate fiscal responsibility before asking the community to consider future funding options.

We’ve implemented cost-saving measures across the organization to stretch every dollar further.

Delayed Projects

Some projects have been postponed to prioritize maintaining existing transit service.

Frozen Service

We’re continuing the same level of transit service for customers. Adding services would increase costs.
