The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is preparing for the 2027 Nevada Legislative Session and continues to build some momentum toward securing a dedicated, long-term funding source for public transportation.
Over the past several months, RTC leaders have met with state lawmakers to discuss Southern Nevada’s growing transit funding needs and the essential role public transportation plays in connecting people to jobs, education, healthcare, and everyday destinations.
- The Southern Nevada Forum—a bipartisan group of legislators, business leaders, and community stakeholders—recently identified dedicated transit funding as one of its top priorities for the 2027 legislative session and recommended support to maintain today’s transit service while planning and expanding future high-capacity transit options.
- The Legislature’s Regional Rail Advisory Working Group has recommended exploring legislation to strengthen public transit across Nevada. Its recommendations include creating a statewide entity to coordinate regional rail planning, expand high-capacity transit authority to additional regions, and identify new, dedicated funding to support transit operations and future investments.
RTC will continue working with legislators and community partners throughout the coming months and will share updates as the 2027 legislative session approaches.
Together, we hope these efforts will help ensure Southern Nevada has a reliable, sustainable transit system that can support the region’s continued growth.
